There were two drives today, the first was looking for leopards, and the second was a search for a released group of African Hunting Dogs.
We split into three groups and searched for a leopard. We found a female who luckily walked to a river bed where we could easily see her. She then moved off into the bush where we could not follow. The other vehicles tracked her down in an area where she was visible, and she had a cub with her. Apparently there was another cub of her’s in another area. The cub was cute and was left on its own after a while.
In the afternoon we went of looking for the Hunting Dogs. The male dog had only three legs. When he was released originally he soon broke his leg. The vets tried to fix the leg, but to no avail, it broke again when released. So the decision was made to amputate. Apparently he is still able to get around and hunt very well. Took quite a while to track down the dogs, well worth it when we found them. Sundowner G&Ts as the sun set by a reservoir .
Back at the lodge we had supper, and then a night viewing from a hide in front of which kitchen scraps were thrown. Porcupines and a Honey Badger. Alas the Honey Badger came on to the viewing area and disappeared, before I had a chance to get a photograph. The Honey Badger was frightened off by an unwanted warthog who had found the evening free feeding. It slightly resembled a French farce
