We had an 8 am start for the game drive in Etosha National Park. Quite a drive to the park and some bureaucracy to get in. On the drive to the administration center some were lucky to see the only rhino spotted for the holiday. Our vehicle was ahead of the others and missed it.
We spotted jackals, hyena, lions, wildebeest, oryx, giraffe, zebra, springbok, elephants and others.
Several spotting of lions, mainly from the same pride. One group had just dined on a giraffe kill which was being finished off by the jackals. This pride were later spotted at the waterhole, with their cubs. We watched one pair of lions, “in the honeymoon stage” said our guide Jaques. The male lion would push his luck and snuggle up to her, but she had a full stomach and was having none of it and a bit of snarling and biffing ensued. Eventually she gave up and he ended up snuggled closely to her complete with triumphant smile
Not sure why we did not have a packed lunch, would have saved so much time. Also the lodge in the centre of the Etosha National Park seemed nice enough and we could have watched the animals at the waterhole with our sundowners in hand. But it had apparently been used on a previous visit and did not rate well.
Some pictures of eagles and the social weaver birds. It was one hard day, and we were back well after sunset. Another buffet supper with singing and dancing by the staff.
