So interesting to find out about Blasdales. Don’t know if we are related or not. My father, Albert Arthur Blasdale [one of 6 boys and a girl ] came to U.S with his uncle, Wilfred Wright , in early 1900’s

Sorry to hear your father Barry has had a stroke, same as far as the heart. Problem, but fourunatly I have not had open heart surgery. But 1994 did have an operation to remove cancer of the overy and womb. Survived that , and the then stroke. Plop! Well at least I’m still alive, not so my sister Ellen who died in Janaury 1990. From heart attack. They did not find her till 3 days later, bad stuff that. Oh, by the way how are your Nathan. Chad and Jason going? Last saw them 2008 , Nathan talked about training as a cook. I went to their mothers furneral. So sad to see Nathan, fall to the ground, crying with so much, with greif. The pastor read out Rev 21: 3 & 4, Great scripture, that. If I not wrong on that, spoke to Cathy about. some time b4 she died. 28th Aug 2004. 10 years goes so fast where, has the time gone? Glenys.
My son, Patrick Blasdale (8), is doing a family tree. We have quite a lot of detail but are intersted in any details of Allen Blasdale – born around 1875 – who was my Great Grandfather or anyone else called Blasdale in that period or before. Hi to all the Blasdales! – I’m currently researching my family tree and think I may have discovered a link with the Blasdale family in Nottingham. My fathers’ name is Michael Hallam-Clarke (and his father was George Hallam-Clarke) and I’d had no luck with name – My father has recently found a limited family tree that his father George drew up and it appears that Georges’ father (my great grandfather) was an Arthur Blasdale from Nottingham. We think he was married to a Beatrice Mary Adams (her maiden name?) and they had 7 children – John Arthur, Edward Adams, Roland Harry, James Blasdale, Harold (nickname Jelly), George (my grandfather) and Beatrice Jennifer (who we think was known as Jenny and married a vicar called Aggasi). At some point the family name changed to Clarke and we believe Arthur (and family) moved to Ramsgate in Kent where he was the Town Clerk. Does this tie into any existing Blasdale tree?
My grandfather and father were both born in Nottingham.My gradfather had five children, Charles, (my father) Fred who was killed in the first world war and Doris, Ethel and Elsie. They are all now dead. The only one to have children was Charles, two sons John and Michael and Jean, all born in Warwickshire. John had two sons, Richard and Christopher, Jean had two sons Anthony and David Hadley and I had two sons Stephen and Peter. Does this help in any way. Best wishes Michael.

My mother was in contact with Christopher Blasdale a couple of years ago, and learned that he was putting together a book about the Blasdale family genealogy. That is my father you speak of . It is quite touching for you to speak of my father like that . Hes a good man and father who battled all his life .gave his children all we needed . I and my older brother have spoken about taking him over to the uk for his 80th birthday so he can show us his fathers place of rest as well as hopefully meet some of our relatives( thats u guys 😀) I really hope to be able to do this as after his stroke and heart operations i just do not know how many more chances he will have to go home to where he was born … more so with his two boys ..i will be sure to contact with further details .. This is now quite emotional to read this as unfortunately both my father Terrance ( Barrie) and my brother Stephen have both been taken by Cancer. In fact tomorrow 18/10/2022 will be the 2 year anniversary of my father’s passing.

Hi, like everyone else I’m interested to hear of other blasdales. My fathers family are from the Nottingham area – seems to be a common link. My grandfather was Edward Allen Blasdale, Known as Allen, born 1895. Must be related to the grandfather of one of your other correspondants – same unusual spelling of the christian name. My father was an only child (as far as we know!)so it can’t be the same man.I have put together a rough family tree of what i can find of our branch for the last4 generations and would be interested to see if it slots in with anyone elses. Joseph Blasdale born in 1828 Sutton in Ashfield and married Elizabeth and their children were:- Arthur (b.1863), Edward Allen(b.1867), Joseph Frederick(b.1869), John(b.1855), Annie Rebecca(b.1861), George(.1865)….. any more? Joseph was a blacksmith and Arthur too. Edward Allen was a printer, George was a bookeeper then a traveller, eventually to the USA. Joseph was a solicitor’s clerk. John was an engineer but was a machinist in Philadelphia.John was my great grandfather. He played the organ in Philadelphia Cathedral. My grandfather was a teacher of music. My father was a priest. My brother restores organs and plays the organ all over the place. Any more information please?

Hi! Rebecca. Yes there are Blasdale’s out there in Australia. Get hold of the Adelaide. South Australia, phone book to start. There are a few in Western Australia as well. Try on the web for phone books and I think there may also be some in New South Wales. I was looking up ‘ancestry.com.uk’ and such web sites. So it’s interesting to find out also that in the United States, they figure prominently in it’s history. There was a fameos concert piano player who died some time ago. Also a Blasdale who survived the American civil war of 1863 and settled in Navarda. So if you look up miltary records it’s a facenating jorney. The one i’m most familar with is a Fred Blasdale who was killed at Dunkirk in ww2 in 1940 he came from Carlton, in Nottingham. Military records can help you to piece together a conection with others that can surprise you. I hope this has helped. Glenys
No you are not thick, Rosemary commented on it. It was the title of Greg Davies show. The show got its name from one event in his life. He and a mate were travelling back to their villa in Spain after food shopping. They appeared to have purchased a catapult and some cheese balls. Their way home was stopped by a dog standing in the road. It was a fierce dog that basically gave them a ‘V’ sign and a kind of get me if you want to try look. So they sat in the car and fired cheese balls at it with the catapult.
I was born in Beeston (5 miles SW of Nottingham, England) in 1937; my family knew no other Blasdales in the area, though there were always a few other families (2-4) in the local telephone directory. I am surprised at how many Blasdales there now are or once were in the Nottingham area! I now live in New Jersey, USA, 30 miles west of New York (City); I have an elder brother Keith living in Glasgow, Scotland. There seem to be quite a few Blasdales in the USA (even at least one other John Blasdale), though I have never tried to contact any.

We have had today’s dose of G&T (weak) and wine (one small glass). Nice to see you with us, and the chefing was most appreciated. Loved the fish menus, and today we went Mexican after your chefing class. Pity about the beer, I did find better beer in Scotland, I know you find that hard to believe.
I think your mystery bird on the golf course may be a Wheatear.
I’m also suspicious that your “Yellow Wagtail” may actually be a Grey Wagtail (its tail looks v. long and its legs are relatively short). Both, confusingly, have yellow on them.
I remember very well being lost on that day after photographing some magnificent butterflies, and couldn’t understand why my nearest and dearest thought that I would intuitively know not to follow the arrow when the path divided, but to take the other path. He must think I am very clever! I did a lot of running around and shouting, thinking that the group must be totally deaf, and was very glad when Steve also took the wrong path (the one with the arrow pointing to it) and caught up with me. I had visions of being stranded on a desert island, with Richard not realising till much later that I wasn’t just being naughty, but really was lost, and not on the boat. Steve and I did find a rather splendid Striped Saddlebags (Tramea calverti) though, and took time to photograph it.
OK, so why is your excellent picture of that beautiful dragonfly (the first shot) not in your star pictures gallery, pray tell? It’s a lovely shot, especially if you clone out the wasp thingy. 😀
Star Photos – definitely the way to go. You’ve got some very nice shots. I particularly like the nicely posed lizard with the red throat. the flight shots of the gull with black wing tips and the first pelican shot are also excellent (nice clearly focussed eyes).
Just indulge an old Odonata softie and add the Striped Saddlebags with the wasp cloned out.
We did walk up and down what we thought was the road, but failed to find VG’s caff. At think at this time we were decidedly getting lost in the winding passages.
When asked for a beer, I did say Is the pope a Catholic? Puzzled face, then ‘I get you’. Not sure whether in New England I should try the Kennedy version.
You do get to work with some bozos, don’t you? They either work from home after yo’ve flown across the Atlantic to be with them, go on holiday after you’ve flown across the Atlantic to be with them, or lock you in the car park. Marvellous! Got any “official complaint” forms?
My one close friend also went to Fermain bay had diner I think, he was praising the taste, I love everything about Guernsey, I think words cant explain this place, after having approximately 5-6 visits there in last 10 years, I love restaurants in Guernsey and beaches were out of the world.

Haven’t heard from you in a while, supposed you running aroung like a blue bum fly, as we say in oz. Since i got my laptop I’ve been very busy trying to down size my gear thorough ‘gumtree’ It’s also been great checking out your rentals and finding them so much cheaper than here in Perth. Prices have shot up so much people are finding that they are paying for a room what they used to pay for a house not so long ago.
A friend who is a computer wiz like you has just gone back to India. He and his friends have helped me lots with using my p.c. Plus I’ve been trying out new things. I sent him a pic today, not me of course but “the mona lisa” titled oh! what a lovely babe.
I know of a person who looks a lot like the ‘mona lisa” she does not agree but I think I will sent her a copy and see what she thinks.
Mind you I now realise why the guy who sold it to me, sold it cheap, while typing it jumps over to another part of the screen and closes down a page while i’m using it. Well it will have to do for now, till i go overseas. Thinking of going to India first and staying about a month then on to the U.K. Priya say that if i go about Septmber/ October it won’t be to hot then. It will be good to meet other people and experience a different culture. He would be an interesting person for u to meet. If you like and he says o,k I’ll send you his e-mail. You would have a lot in common. I meet him on the train going to Perth. He says he is glad to be back home because the food is more in tune with his stomach. Hot and spicy. He was working for IBM in Perth. I think he wanted to stay a bit longer in Perth but they would not sponser him. He was overseeing their day to day operations in their I T department. I gess that’s a highly skilled talent. Is it?

Pete, thanks. Not sure why I have not photographed the Kites before. They are constantly flying around the field. One has taken to sitting on the power post in the field. I know they often roost and sit in the oak trees a quarter of a mile away.
Hi all my mother was a Blasdall her father was Mark Arron same as his father. The family is from Nottingham and were lace makers. Came out to Australia in 1862. Lived in Brisbane. Anyone else from this side?
Like your photos! I was there about a year after the quake, when the city centre was more-or-less abandoned. There as a temporary city centre built from shipping containers. Is that still there? Good to hear that reconstruction is well under way.
Is this group still active? I am in the United States. My Grandmother was a Hossack. Her Grandparents emigrated in about 1873. Robert Hossack and Jane Campbell Hossack. I would be interested in learning more about the history of the Hossack family.
All my photographs do go through Lightroom. The colour balance was not changed, the shadows were lightened considerably, while the highlights were darkened a bit.
I could still get into Windows after the backout. Several hours later it would try and apply the upgrade again. There was no conclusive evidence the drive had failed. CHKDSK did stall at 14% for many hours. It was at that stage I decided to buy the SSD. They have come done in price since the time I bought it.
My great grandmother married Ernest Arthur Blasdale. He was from Nottingham originally but settled in Ilkeston. He sadly died of a brain hemorrage in his 40’s. He’ll have been born around 1880 He was a mining engineer. My grandmother was a Blasdale but married Jack Hodgett who was father to my mum. We’ve photos and memorabilia anyone related might like to see.

I asked our village Facebook group, and they came back with Westlington Manor. It is on the main road between Thame and Aylesbury. Most probably you saw the cottage as you were travelling by in a bus.

The Cambridge Folk Festival was running before I attended Cambridge University. It started in 1965. I never attended, until three years ago when a group of us alumni of Caius College attended. Sorry to hear your father Barry has had a stroke, same as far as the heart. Problem, but fourunatly I have not had open heart surgery. But 1994 did have an operation to remove cancer of the overy and womb. Survived that , and the then stroke. Plop! Well at least I’m still alive, not so my sister Ellen who died in Janaury 1990. From heart attack. They did not find her till 3 days later, bad stuff that. Oh, by the way how are your Nathan. Chad and Jason going? Last saw them 2008 , Nathan talked about training as a cook. I went to their mothers furneral. So sad to see Nathan, fall to the ground, crying with so much, with greif. The pastor read out Rev 21: 3 & 4, Great scripture, that. If I not wrong on that, spoke to Cathy about. some time b4 she died. 28th Aug 2004. 10 years goes so fast where, has the time gone? Glenys.

Hi to all the Blasdales! – I’m currently researching my family tree and think I may have discovered a link with the Blasdale family in Nottingham. My fathers’ name is Michael Hallam-Clarke (and his father was George Hallam-Clarke) and I’d had no luck with name – My father has recently found a limited family tree that his father George drew up and it appears that Georges’ father (my great grandfather) was an Arthur Blasdale from Nottingham. We think he was married to a Beatrice Mary Adams (her maiden name?) and they had 7 children – John Arthur, Edward Adams, Roland Harry, James Blasdale, Harold (nickname Jelly), George (my grandfather) and Beatrice Jennifer (who we think was known as Jenny and married a vicar called Aggasi). At some point the family name changed to Clarke and we believe Arthur (and family) moved to Ramsgate in Kent where he was the Town Clerk. Does this tie into any existing Blasdale tree?

My grandfather and father were both born in Nottingham.My gradfather had five children, Charles, (my father) Fred who was killed in the first world war and Doris, Ethel and Elsie. They are all now dead. The only one to have children was Charles, two sons John and Michael and Jean, all born in Warwickshire. John had two sons, Richard and Christopher, Jean had two sons Anthony and David Hadley and I had two sons Stephen and Peter. Does this help in any way. Best wishes Michael.

My mother was in contact with Christopher Blasdale a couple of years ago, and learned that he was putting together a book about the Blasdale family genealogy. That is my father you speak of . It is quite touching for you to speak of my father like that . Hes a good man and father who battled all his life .gave his children all we needed . I and my older brother have spoken about taking him over to the uk for his 80th birthday so he can show us his fathers place of rest as well as hopefully meet some of our relatives( thats u guys 😀) I really hope to be able to do this as after his stroke and heart operations i just do not know how many more chances he will have to go home to where he was born … more so with his two boys ..i will be sure to contact with further details .. Hi, like everyone else I’m interested to hear of other blasdales. My fathers family are from the Nottingham area – seems to be a common link. My grandfather was Edward Allen Blasdale, Known as Allen, born 1895. Must be related to the grandfather of one of your other correspondants – same unusual spelling of the christian name. My father was an only child (as far as we know!)so it can’t be the same man.I have put together a rough family tree of what i can find of our branch for the last4 generations and would be interested to see if it slots in with anyone elses. Music seems to feature quite a lot – my great great grandfather Arthur was a composer, and other members v musical. have others found this?

Arthur was my great grandfather.We have a son called Patrick too, aged 10, and daughters Kirsty and Anna (though unfortunately not Blasdales!) so you have a distant cousin Patrick.My dad is Philip Blasdale – I am sure you already have details of that side of the family as i think he and your grandad (? Joseph Blasdale born in 1828 Sutton in Ashfield and married Elizabeth and their children were:- Arthur (b.1863), Edward Allen(b.1867), Joseph Frederick(b.1869), John(b.1855), Annie Rebecca(b.1861), George(.1865)….. any more? Joseph was a blacksmith and Arthur too. Edward Allen was a printer, George was a bookeeper then a traveller, eventually to the USA. Joseph was a solicitor’s clerk. John was an engineer but was a machinist in Philadelphia.John was my great grandfather. He played the organ in Philadelphia Cathedral. My grandfather was a teacher of music. My father was a priest. My brother restores organs and plays the organ all over the place. Any more information please?

I expect so, several of the curry houses are dry, and many of the shops also don’t sell alcohol. Walking around the student area is a great mixture of people, the burka, head to toe covered with eye slits, the the women with scarves and frumpy tunics, and finally the most gorgeous Asian women walking in high heels and sexy clothes.

Hi! Rebecca. Yes there are Blasdale’s out there in Australia. Get hold of the Adelaide. South Australia, phone book to start. There are a few in Western Australia as well. Try on the web for phone books and I think there may also be some in New South Wales. I was looking up ‘ancestry.com.uk’ and such web sites. So it’s interesting to find out also that in the United States, they figure prominently in it’s history. There was a fameos concert piano player who died some time ago. Also a Blasdale who survived the American civil war of 1863 and settled in Navarda. So if you look up miltary records it’s a facenating jorney. The one i’m most familar with is a Fred Blasdale who was killed at Dunkirk in ww2 in 1940 he came from Carlton, in Nottingham. Military records can help you to piece together a conection with others that can surprise you. I hope this has helped. Glenys

No you are not thick, Rosemary commented on it. It was the title of Greg Davies show. The show got its name from one event in his life. He and a mate were travelling back to their villa in Spain after food shopping. They appeared to have purchased a catapult and some cheese balls. Their way home was stopped by a dog standing in the road. It was a fierce dog that basically gave them a ‘V’ sign and a kind of get me if you want to try look. So they sat in the car and fired cheese balls at it with the catapult.
Now are you any the wiser!!!

i live in nottingham my father was denis blasdale but nobody in the family can help with is father , is the any body can help
I was born in Beeston (5 miles SW of Nottingham, England) in 1937; my family knew no other Blasdales in the area, though there were always a few other families (2-4) in the local telephone directory. I am surprised at how many Blasdales there now are or once were in the Nottingham area! I now live in New Jersey, USA, 30 miles west of New York (City); I have an elder brother Keith living in Glasgow, Scotland. There seem to be quite a few Blasdales in the USA (even at least one other John Blasdale), though I have never tried to contact any.
I believe Nottingham to be the home of the Blasdale’s. I used to have three great aunts living there.

I’m also suspicious that your “Yellow Wagtail” may actually be a Grey Wagtail (its tail looks v. long and its legs are relatively short). Both, confusingly, have yellow on them.

I remember very well being lost on that day after photographing some magnificent butterflies, and couldn’t understand why my nearest and dearest thought that I would intuitively know not to follow the arrow when the path divided, but to take the other path. He must think I am very clever! I did a lot of running around and shouting, thinking that the group must be totally deaf, and was very glad when Steve also took the wrong path (the one with the arrow pointing to it) and caught up with me. I had visions of being stranded on a desert island, with Richard not realising till much later that I wasn’t just being naughty, but really was lost, and not on the boat. Steve and I did find a rather splendid Striped Saddlebags (Tramea calverti) though, and took time to photograph it.
I had to put up with comments fom Rosemary for the rest of the day. She was not amused.

OK, so why is your excellent picture of that beautiful dragonfly (the first shot) not in your star pictures gallery, pray tell? It’s a lovely shot, especially if you clone out the wasp thingy. 😀

That wasp thing, I chose that shot because of the wasp thing, to show the extreme danger I was working under.
Star Photos – definitely the way to go. You’ve got some very nice shots. I particularly like the nicely posed lizard with the red throat. the flight shots of the gull with black wing tips and the first pelican shot are also excellent (nice clearly focussed eyes).
Just indulge an old Odonata softie and add the Striped Saddlebags with the wasp cloned out.
We have thoroughly enjoyed the photographs, they are excellent as is the commentary. Perhaps you should put it all together and publish!

My one close friend also went to Fermain bay had diner I think, he was praising the taste, I love everything about Guernsey, I think words cant explain this place, after having approximately 5-6 visits there in last 10 years, I love restaurants in Guernsey and beaches were out of the world.

Haven’t heard from you in a while, supposed you running aroung like a blue bum fly, as we say in oz. Since i got my laptop I’ve been very busy trying to down size my gear thorough ‘gumtree’ It’s also been great checking out your rentals and finding them so much cheaper than here in Perth. Prices have shot up so much people are finding that they are paying for a room what they used to pay for a house not so long ago.
A friend who is a computer wiz like you has just gone back to India. He and his friends have helped me lots with using my p.c. Plus I’ve been trying out new things. I sent him a pic today, not me of course but “the mona lisa” titled oh! what a lovely babe.
I know of a person who looks a lot like the ‘mona lisa” she does not agree but I think I will sent her a copy and see what she thinks.
Mind you I now realise why the guy who sold it to me, sold it cheap, while typing it jumps over to another part of the screen and closes down a page while i’m using it. Well it will have to do for now, till i go overseas. Thinking of going to India first and staying about a month then on to the U.K. Priya say that if i go about Septmber/ October it won’t be to hot then. It will be good to meet other people and experience a different culture. He would be an interesting person for u to meet. If you like and he says o,k I’ll send you his e-mail. You would have a lot in common. I meet him on the train going to Perth. He says he is glad to be back home because the food is more in tune with his stomach. Hot and spicy. He was working for IBM in Perth. I think he wanted to stay a bit longer in Perth but they would not sponser him. He was overseeing their day to day operations in their I T department. I gess that’s a highly skilled talent. Is it?
I’ve registerd for the ‘Blasdale Blog’ site, that will be another thing to challage me, bring it on.
Well as much as I’d like to rattle on, my neck is giving me pain and It’s getting on for one am here, so the body says sleep so i must obey.

WOW!! No longer any need for us to go to Namibia as your photos are FAR better than any I could take and gave us a real feeling of having been there with you! Pete, thanks. Not sure why I have not photographed the Kites before. They are constantly flying around the field. One has taken to sitting on the power post in the field. I know they often roost and sit in the oak trees a quarter of a mile away.

Hi all my mother was a Blasdall her father was Mark Arron same as his father. The family is from Nottingham and were lace makers. Came out to Australia in 1862. Lived in Brisbane. Anyone else from this side?

Like your photos! I was there about a year after the quake, when the city centre was more-or-less abandoned. There as a temporary city centre built from shipping containers. Is that still there? Good to hear that reconstruction is well under way.
The container mall had been dismantled recently, leaving one container housing a bank. A tourist brochure still mentioned the mall as existing.

No, the gardens are not generally open to the public, they are private gardens. Tours of the gardens are available for groups. Superb photograph of St. Davids Cathedral Rose window – is that camera colour balance/white level, or did you choose to adjust in Lightroom?
All my photographs do go through Lightroom. The colour balance was not changed, the shadows were lightened considerably, while the highlights were darkened a bit.
Interesting – just one question (so far…); you said:

As the thing was looping and presumably you couldn’t get into Windows 10, so how to run diagnostics?
— maybe you had the foresight to intall a dual-boot system, maybe you had to boot into a standalone diagnostic?

I could still get into Windows after the backout. Several hours later it would try and apply the upgrade again. There was no conclusive evidence the drive had failed. CHKDSK did stall at 14% for many hours. It was at that stage I decided to buy the SSD. They have come done in price since the time I bought it.

My great grandmother married Ernest Arthur Blasdale. He was from Nottingham originally but settled in Ilkeston. He sadly died of a brain hemorrage in his 40’s. He’ll have been born around 1880 He was a mining engineer. My grandmother was a Blasdale but married Jack Hodgett who was father to my mum. We’ve photos and memorabilia anyone related might like to see.

I asked our village Facebook group, and they came back with Westlington Manor. It is on the main road between Thame and Aylesbury. Most probably you saw the cottage as you were travelling by in a bus.

The Cambridge Folk Festival was running before I attended Cambridge University. It started in 1965. I never attended, until three years ago when a group of us alumni of Caius College attended. One of the alumni was checking off his bucket list, I had taken him to Glastonbury Festival. I persuaded Rosemary to come this time.
Love the book Christmas tree. Looks like Canons Ashby is well worth a visit any time of year.
