Well we had the KC&RC committee meeting at the Swan. We had left the organisation of a dance too late, so will be having one in September instead of April. Probably date the 19th or 20th We agreed to buy an automatic trap, seems everyone is fed up using the manual levermatic traps. Also you can put the automatic in line of fire which means you can set-up shoots far more easily. We also agreed to purchase a 20ft container to store all the traps, subject to Sally and Peter having it on their land. The Welsh trip is to be organised for May bank holiday. And that was that..

Clay shooting
More work for Rosemary, but at least from home. The day was a beautiful sunny day, so I went clay shooting in the morning at Collet. Quite a good turn out for the KC&RC. Not sure what my score was. I really should take the cards and publish them on the web. We decided it was time to have a committee meeting
Clay Shoot and Lunch
Out for shooting at 10.30. Whole family went to the shoot, Selina did not shoot, but Graham the boy friend shot very well for someone who has not held a gun. The weather was warm, but windy and likley to rain at any time.
Vicky from next door brought her son (Matt), who had shot for the English team when younger. You could see from the way he shot he was in another league from us.
Next back to the Plough and Anchor for lunch and lots of beer. Had a special treat of the beer Spitfire.
KC&RC AGM
The AGM of the KC&RC was held in the village hall. Barry stepped down from the committee. Richard has taken up the post of Chairman; his main concern was he going to have to use computers. Mick to continue as secretary and Ian as the treasurer. I am still on the committee.
We decided to keep the club running in the same form. Some discussion on purchasing automatic traps, but again we have a couple we can use. Could we also advertise, or do something to get new members into the club. Peter said the P&A were coming to the Boxing Day shoot. Some members thought this was worthwhile and we should help and try and recruit a few
To the pub for a few pints of beer and some sandwiches, chips etc
Shooting
Today was a club shoot at the Kingswood Clay and Rough Club. About ten people turned up for a shoot on Pete’s farm. Afterwards I did a bit of wood cutting in the grave yard, and then said goodbye to Rikki from the Plough and Anchor. He is moving on to the Bull and Butcher.
Kingswood Clay and Roughshoot Club
Busy weekend. Selina was home to see Graham, and the KC&RC were hosting a League Shoot leg.
Saturday afternoon, (sun shining) was used to set up the shoot. Five stands with automatic traps were placed in the field and loaded with clays for a Sporting layout.
Sunday was a wet and miserable day. We did not expect many to turn out for the shoot, but they did and I was told that was more than the average for a league shoot attended. By the time we had cleared up it was 1 o’clock.
The Bank Holiday Weekend
This weekend and Bank holiday we basically stayed at home.
The Sunday was the return of the Welsh, (St Brides Major) clay shoot. They arrived at 11.30 and shot the 80 bird layout. After the shoot, there was lunch and much beer and wine. The result, we beat them on the day, but they won the whole overall shoot by six shots. When you think each of us need only have scored half a shot more to win, then you can see how close it was.
The Monday we ran a shoot for the Grendon Underwood football team. There was a lot of set-up and clearing up at the end. I had to show most of the shooters how to handle and shoot with a shotgun. They, never having shot before.
Kingswood Clay and Rough Shoot Club BBQ
Saturday was the day for the KCRC BBQ. Had a clay shoot late afternoon. Rather pathetic score from me. Then a BBQ hosted by Pete Sherrif, of burgers, steak and sausages. Lots of beer and wine.
Afterwards a game of aunt sally and a large scale game of Jenga
Clay Shooting
A quick 45 minutes clay shoot at Pete Sherriff’s mini sporting layout. What an absolute diasater, I kept missing or my shells were lead less. At least the rain held off.
Bit worried about Saturday when I go to Donnington Park for the Ozzfest. Why was the MTV series, the Osbournes delayed by one week last Sunday, I was looking forward to watching it.
I have started doing the web site for the beating the boundaries, should have it loaded on the web sometime next week.
Welsh match
Up and out early to catch the coach to Wales for the clay match against Saint Bride’s Major. We arrived and had a 75 target shoot in the quarry. I was quite pleased with my 40. It was better than most of the true Kingswood club members.
Unfortunately the Welsh beat us. Their high gun, shot 59, seemingly getting all the difficult shots but dropping some easier shots.
They had their usual pair of birds across the top of the quarry. Most of us have real difficulty with this stand. It makes for an interesting shoot being very different to our own shoots.
Back to the pub at 2.30 for beer and roast beef lunch. And what a surprise, I have never heard some many positive comments about the price of the beer, £1.50 for a pint (20 fluid ounce, a little over 500 ml) .
