The holiday seems an eternity ago and I have to visit the site every now and then to remind myself why I go to work 🙂 Great picures and interesting Blog Steve, keep up the good work old boy!!!
I have Blasdales in my family and I am researching my family tree my great grandmother was Alice Blasdale. Please look at my family tree to see if we can add some new ppl to our respective Family Tree.http://www.lizzynnarn.com/genealogy/john_steele_generation2.htm
Steve, Do you think I am related to you!!!??? I think its a superb Website and I’ve just looked at the new sailing photos. Also what are you doing flying into telephone lines??
Hi Pete,
hope you get my mail. Since I eventually got internet in our village (between Hamburg and Bremen), I managed to find your name. How are you doing? Are you still in New Zealand? Would be delighted to have an answer.
I am working in Bremen and bought a house in the country side. My mother is 85 years now, and living here, too. I am divorced (of course) and found a nice, new relationship, sharing work and country life with me.
Kind regards
Henry
So interesting to find out about Blasdales. Don’t know if we are related or not. My father, Albert Arthur Blasdale [one of 6 boys and a girl ] came to U.S with his uncle, Wilfred Wright , in early 1900’s
hi Tony, from oz side of this earth. Blasdale’s in Western Australia. Also there are Blasdale’s in Adelaide, South Australia. Oh by the way are you related to Fred Blasdale, Nottingham UK. He died in 1940, during the Dunkirk campaine. Wife’s name Mary, son-Barrie-had 5 kids, in oz now, lots grandkids 15? last count. Fred’s daughter, Ellen died 1990 no kids. Your welcome to leave message on this page for me. Cheers Glenys Blasdale, Barries’ half sister.
Hi Further to this post , A little update
16 Grand children for Barrie ( that’s My Father )
1 Great Grand daughter
My father is doing well though age is catching up to him ( having had a minor stroke and open heart surgery in the past couple of years )
But he is tough , well he has had to be all his life .
Hope all the Blasdale Families worldwide are well
Kindest regards
Michael D Blasdale
Sorry to hear your father Barry has had a stroke, same as far as the heart. Problem, but fourunatly I have not had open heart surgery. But 1994 did have an operation to remove cancer of the overy and womb. Survived that , and the then stroke. Plop! Well at least I’m still alive, not so my sister Ellen who died in Janaury 1990. From heart attack. They did not find her till 3 days later, bad stuff that. Oh, by the way how are your Nathan. Chad and Jason going? Last saw them 2008 , Nathan talked about training as a cook. I went to their mothers furneral. So sad to see Nathan, fall to the ground, crying with so much, with greif. The pastor read out Rev 21: 3 & 4, Great scripture, that. If I not wrong on that, spoke to Cathy about. some time b4 she died. 28th Aug 2004. 10 years goes so fast where, has the time gone? Glenys.
My son, Patrick Blasdale (8), is doing a family tree. We have quite a lot of detail but are intersted in any details of Allen Blasdale – born around 1875 – who was my Great Grandfather or anyone else called Blasdale in that period or before. We have some details of his 4 brothers (Arthur, George, Joseph and John) and 2 sisters (Annie and Mary) I guess that with a name like Blasdale I must be related to anyone with the same name!!! Any help would be interesting. Thanks Nick Blasdale
Please feel free to contact me via the aboves e-mail address. Am particulary looking forward to contact any blasdale that was born and bred in Nottingham UK. Trying to contact Fred Blasdale’s (killed in ww2 1940), sister who adopted a little girl 1945. Given name of child AUDREY. I will though be very pleased to be contacted by any of the BLASDALE clan from where ever. Also am trying to get a better picture of the history of the name BLASDALE and it’s dirivitives. Have tracked the name as far back as 1500’s. I have been corosponding with Steve for some time and also there are BLASDALE’s in South Australia. So we’re everywhere. But we could do with more on line. Cheers to you all. G.B.from OZ

Hi to all the Blasdales! – I’m currently researching my family tree and think I may have discovered a link with the Blasdale family in Nottingham. My fathers’ name is Michael Hallam-Clarke (and his father was George Hallam-Clarke) and I’d had no luck with name – My father has recently found a limited family tree that his father George drew up and it appears that Georges’ father (my great grandfather) was an Arthur Blasdale from Nottingham. We think he was married to a Beatrice Mary Adams (her maiden name?) and they had 7 children – John Arthur, Edward Adams, Roland Harry, James Blasdale, Harold (nickname Jelly), George (my grandfather) and Beatrice Jennifer (who we think was known as Jenny and married a vicar called Aggasi). At some point the family name changed to Clarke and we believe Arthur (and family) moved to Ramsgate in Kent where he was the Town Clerk. Does this tie into any existing Blasdale tree?
My grandfather and father were both born in Nottingham. My gradfather had five children, Charles, (my father) Fred who was killed in the first world war and Doris, Ethel and Elsie. They are all now dead. The only one to have children was Charles, two sons John and Michael and Jean, all born in Warwickshire. John had two sons, Richard and Christopher, Jean had two sons Anthony and David Hadley and I had two sons Stephen and Peter. Does this help in any way. Best wishes Michael.
Just a few clarifications . Fred is my grandfather , my grandfather was K.I.A in WW2 . Being that fred is my grandfather it is fair to say he to had children … My father Terrance Barrie Blasdale being his son ..
Kindest regards
Michael 😀ðŸ‘
Michael – thanks very much for the info. Not aware of any link yet but I’m at very early days with the Blasdale connection though I have just made contact with a second cousin who may have further information so I’ll post here again if I make a connection Thanks again – Cali
I’m the daughter of Jean and Herbert Halsey Blasdale, born in Berkeley, CA in 1953. My mother was in contact with Christopher Blasdale a couple of years ago, and learned that he was putting together a book about the Blasdale family genealogy. She hasn’t been able to keep in touch with him (she has no access to the Internet) but is curious to find out what has happened to the project. My father, Herbert Halsey Blasdale, was born in Berkeley, California on August 8, 1910.My grandfather was Walter Blasdale. My great grandfather was Charles Blasdale. At the moment, I am on vacation with my mother so I do not have access to the genealogical data she has put together or I would be able to give you more information.Any response would be great! Thanks!Janice Blasdale Davenport
Hello Janice: I am a cousin through the Bevans family which was your mother’s line. She had sent me a copy of Bevans History and some pictures that I had made off and I returned to her. She told me you had more very old family pictures. I would certainly like to get copies of them and would pay cost and mailing. She had a couple of my direct defendants that I did not have so I was most grateful. We also visited in the phone a couple of times. I hope you see this and will help me by getting prints made. If course with cell phone now it is easy to photograph them and email. Look forward to hearing back from you.
HELLO TO ALL YOU BLASDALES OUT THERE. AND HERES ME THINKING ONLY A MINORITY OF US WERE STILL ABOUT. MY FAMILY DERIVED FROM SYDNEY BLASDALE OF COVENTRY. MT FATHER BEING ANTHONY.NICE TO KNOW THERE ARE MORE OF US WITH SUCH A WONDERFUL NAME. TAKE CARE.

Hi Michael
That is my father you speak of . It is quite touching for you to speak of my father like that . Hes a good man and father who battled all his life .gave his children all we needed . I and my older brother have spoken about taking him over to the uk for his 80th birthday so he can show us his fathers place of rest as well as hopefully meet some of our relatives( thats u guys 😀) I really hope to be able to do this as after his stroke and heart operations i just do not know how many more chances he will have to go home to where he was born … more so with his two boys ..i will be sure to contact with further details .. Take care
Many regards

Sorry have not been back to u in a while. Have changed my e mail. Again…i’ve known about AUDREY since was 11. My mother Mary got a letter from the UK from her sister Murial. Last time I spoke to her daughter Madelaine 1985? She spoke about my sister Ellen. Who has since died 1990 + Januray. What a shame to travel al lthe way from oz only to die in UK.
Michael John Blasdale, ,
Is her name AUDREY, CLARKE? She was adopted by one of Fred Blasdale”s sisters.? She is my birth mother’s natural issue. Mary Blasdale, she died 1982 due to car crash. In Perth on the 2/8/82 in royal perth hospital. Sorry for taking so long to replying. But life gets in the way. Don’t it?

Hi, like everyone else I’m interested to hear of other blasdales. My fathers family are from the Nottingham area – seems to be a common link. My grandfather was Edward Allen Blasdale, Known as Allen, born 1895. Must be related to the grandfather of one of your other correspondants – same unusual spelling of the christian name. My father was an only child (as far as we know!)so it can’t be the same man.I have put together a rough family tree of what i can find of our branch for the last4 generations and would be interested to see if it slots in with anyone elses. Music seems to feature quite a lot – my great great grandfather Arthur was a composer, and other members v musical. have others found this?

Further information for Patrick Blasdale: Your great great grandfather Allen had 4 brothers, Joseph, George, Arthur and John and 2 sisters, Annie and mary. Arthur was my great grandfather. We have a son called Patrick too, aged 10, and daughters Kirsty and Anna (though unfortunately not Blasdales!) so you have a distant cousin Patrick. My dad is Philip Blasdale – I am sure you already have details of that side of the family as i think he and your grandad (? Derek) were in touch.Good luck with the rest of the family tree!
Hi, i was suprised to see so many Blasdale’s were around. Very strange though as my Grandfather was also born in Nottingham (John Blasdale, as was his brother (Gilbert Blasdale).. Not sure of any connections though.

My father was an only child. But he himself had 6 children John, Dennis, Keith, Peter, Wendy and of course myself. I am amazed at how many Blasdale’s there are in the world. It would be lovely to hear from anyone connected with the Coventry Clan in any way, or anyone who may have known my dad and family. Please contact.

WOW!I DIDN’T REALISE THERE WERE SO MANY BLASDALES OUT THERE. WE LIVE IN NOTTINGHAM, MY HUSBAND IS ANTHONY BLASDALE, HE HAS A BROTHER CALLED PAUL AND THEIR FATHER WAS CALLED DENNIS. I JUST THOUGHT I WOULD ADD US TO THE LIST.
My primary spell checker offered no suggestions, so I had to post with the spelling mistake, and allow the secondary spell checker to action the misspellings and grammar asynchronously. Alas this spell checker can take sever hours or even days to kick in.
Iam Susan Blasdale (now Smith) My father was Stanley Leonard Blasdale born 1910 from Nottingham. His mother was Blanche Blasdale. I have three sisters, Patricia, Betty and Jean. We emigated to Australia in 1946 but now all live back in Nottinghamshire. I understand my father never knew who his father was and I would be really interested if any other Blasdales out there had any info. on my father`s family as I know virtually nothing about them. Cheers!
That “not to be named” person is, I suspect, me, then? To be fair, I don’t mind change for the better but this seemed to fall into the “not as good as before” category, to me. I guess I’ll have to go that way, though.
I couldn’t agree more – go nuclear! The world’s population is growing far too fast to be satisfied by intermittent, low-output technology. What we should really be doing is concentrating on insulating ourselves from being held to ransom by other countries. France has got it right.
If you think buying charcoal at Easter is difficult, try buying it at Christmas for the turkey or goose. This is why I try to ensure that I have half a garage full to last me through winter as our so-called summer draws to a close.
As the oldest of the “old friends”, I must say that the slow roasted lamb shoulder with pomegranate was very good. It just remains for me to add, stuff Gordon Brown! 🙂
I expect so, several of the curry houses are dry, and many of the shops also don’t sell alcohol. Walking around the student area is a great mixture of people, the burka, head to toe covered with eye slits, the the women with scarves and frumpy tunics, and finally the most gorgeous Asian women walking in high heels and sexy clothes.
Blimey – some things are a bit wierd, like finding a Blasdale website!! and also finding my Auntie Dawn – who I haven’t seen for 20 years – posted a blog a couple of years ago.
My name is Lee Blasdale originally from Coventry. My Dad is Denis Blasdale whose father and grand father were both called John Ernest Blasdale from Leicester. Has anyone tried mapping a family tree, and can I help?

Hi! Rebecca. Yes there are Blasdale’s out there in Australia. Get hold of the Adelaide. South Australia, phone book to start. There are a few in Western Australia as well. Try on the web for phone books and I think there may also be some in New South Wales. I was looking up ‘ancestry.com.uk’ and such web sites. So it’s interesting to find out also that in the United States, they figure prominently in it’s history. There was a fameos concert piano player who died some time ago. Also a Blasdale who survived the American civil war of 1863 and settled in Navarda. So if you look up miltary records it’s a facenating jorney. The one i’m most familar with is a Fred Blasdale who was killed at Dunkirk in ww2 in 1940 he came from Carlton, in Nottingham. Military records can help you to piece together a conection with others that can surprise you. I hope this has helped. Glenys
No you are not thick, Rosemary commented on it. It was the title of Greg Davies show. The show got its name from one event in his life. He and a mate were travelling back to their villa in Spain after food shopping. They appeared to have purchased a catapult and some cheese balls. Their way home was stopped by a dog standing in the road. It was a fierce dog that basically gave them a ‘V’ sign and a kind of get me if you want to try look. So they sat in the car and fired cheese balls at it with the catapult.
I was born in Beeston (5 miles SW of Nottingham, England) in 1937; my family knew no other Blasdales in the area, though there were always a few other families (2-4) in the local telephone directory. I am surprised at how many Blasdales there now are or once were in the Nottingham area! I now live in New Jersey, USA, 30 miles west of New York (City); I have an elder brother Keith living in Glasgow, Scotland. There seem to be quite a few Blasdales in the USA (even at least one other John Blasdale), though I have never tried to contact any.
Hi paul blasdale, are you elsies son? Elsie lived on Grassby walk, clifton, nottingham. Elsi is my dads sister and im trying to contact her by phone but no answer. Hope all is well.
Hi, I’m Elise granddaughter, Paul’s daughter. Elise has now moved but still living in clifton. If u would like to contact her let me know lisablasdale@gmail.com.
And a very enjoyable week it was, too, even if the weather didn’t cooperate as well as it might. Thanks you both for allowing us to share it with you and now for the detox campaign. 😉
We have had today’s dose of G&T (weak) and wine (one small glass). Nice to see you with us, and the chefing was most appreciated. Loved the fish menus, and today we went Mexican after your chefing class. Pity about the beer, I did find better beer in Scotland, I know you find that hard to believe.
I think your mystery bird on the golf course may be a Wheatear.
I’m also suspicious that your “Yellow Wagtail” may actually be a Grey Wagtail (its tail looks v. long and its legs are relatively short). Both, confusingly, have yellow on them.
I remember very well being lost on that day after photographing some magnificent butterflies, and couldn’t understand why my nearest and dearest thought that I would intuitively know not to follow the arrow when the path divided, but to take the other path. He must think I am very clever! I did a lot of running around and shouting, thinking that the group must be totally deaf, and was very glad when Steve also took the wrong path (the one with the arrow pointing to it) and caught up with me. I had visions of being stranded on a desert island, with Richard not realising till much later that I wasn’t just being naughty, but really was lost, and not on the boat. Steve and I did find a rather splendid Striped Saddlebags (Tramea calverti) though, and took time to photograph it.
OK, so why is your excellent picture of that beautiful dragonfly (the first shot) not in your star pictures gallery, pray tell? It’s a lovely shot, especially if you clone out the wasp thingy. 😀
Star Photos – definitely the way to go. You’ve got some very nice shots. I particularly like the nicely posed lizard with the red throat. the flight shots of the gull with black wing tips and the first pelican shot are also excellent (nice clearly focussed eyes).
Just indulge an old Odonata softie and add the Striped Saddlebags with the wasp cloned out.
We did walk up and down what we thought was the road, but failed to find VG’s caff. At think at this time we were decidedly getting lost in the winding passages.
When asked for a beer, I did say Is the pope a Catholic? Puzzled face, then ‘I get you’. Not sure whether in New England I should try the Kennedy version.
You do get to work with some bozos, don’t you? They either work from home after yo’ve flown across the Atlantic to be with them, go on holiday after you’ve flown across the Atlantic to be with them, or lock you in the car park. Marvellous! Got any “official complaint” forms?
My one close friend also went to Fermain bay had diner I think, he was praising the taste, I love everything about Guernsey, I think words cant explain this place, after having approximately 5-6 visits there in last 10 years, I love restaurants in Guernsey and beaches were out of the world.
hi there from the oz side of this planet. Just been checking out your sites. Great to see what you are like. Your welcome to e-mail me at porkpie761@gmail.com. Cheers, Glenys.
Hi steve and rosemary, It’s me again. above e-mail now is what i’m sticking with at present, hope others will die a natural death. Your welcome to come and walk around our lakes and dams. It proberbly will be like your summer.
I hope you liked the photo. Not the most complementy. Oh well. Can’t all be perfect.
Haven’t heard from you in a while, supposed you running aroung like a blue bum fly, as we say in oz. Since i got my laptop I’ve been very busy trying to down size my gear thorough ‘gumtree’ It’s also been great checking out your rentals and finding them so much cheaper than here in Perth. Prices have shot up so much people are finding that they are paying for a room what they used to pay for a house not so long ago.
A friend who is a computer wiz like you has just gone back to India. He and his friends have helped me lots with using my p.c. Plus I’ve been trying out new things. I sent him a pic today, not me of course but “the mona lisa” titled oh! what a lovely babe.
I know of a person who looks a lot like the ‘mona lisa” she does not agree but I think I will sent her a copy and see what she thinks.
Mind you I now realise why the guy who sold it to me, sold it cheap, while typing it jumps over to another part of the screen and closes down a page while i’m using it. Well it will have to do for now, till i go overseas. Thinking of going to India first and staying about a month then on to the U.K. Priya say that if i go about Septmber/ October it won’t be to hot then. It will be good to meet other people and experience a different culture. He would be an interesting person for u to meet. If you like and he says o,k I’ll send you his e-mail. You would have a lot in common. I meet him on the train going to Perth. He says he is glad to be back home because the food is more in tune with his stomach. Hot and spicy. He was working for IBM in Perth. I think he wanted to stay a bit longer in Perth but they would not sponser him. He was overseeing their day to day operations in their I T department. I gess that’s a highly skilled talent. Is it?
I’ve registerd for the ‘Blasdale Blog’ site, that will be another thing to challage me, bring it on.
Well as much as I’d like to rattle on, my neck is giving me pain and It’s getting on for one am here, so the body says sleep so i must obey.
Cheers and good health and all that to you and yours. Glenys
Amazing ‘photos. Why not retire and become a full time photographer?
I wonder how many more times you will get to Glastonbury!!
Hope all goes well with you both.

Hi, to Steve from Alysbury UK it’s me Glenys from Western Australia. pc broke so using a borrowed one for now. new e-mail seem to be changing e mails like clothes. but am sticking with this one as my main one for now. Could you please phone me or txt me via my mobile, your personel direct e mail. Cheers Glenys
Sorry not to reply before. I have only just seen this comment. I will email you my email address to the one you commented with. Hopefully you have an android phone and pick up emails on that.
WOW!! No longer any need for us to go to Namibia as your photos are FAR better than any I could take and gave us a real feeling of having been there with you! You might even have to teach us how to put together a blog with photos etc! Many thanks, Sarah. PS So delighted with the family of guinea fowl Rosemary so kindly brought back for us.
Glad your safari is going well and that the food is good[which I rather doubt!]We had rather grotty food when
we lived in Scotland]
Weather desperately hot here and we are all praying for rain.
I see you are described as ‘man of leisure’ !!
No more news from here. Hope the rest of the trip goes well. O.M.
Amazing pictures and excellent commentary. We have spent an hour reading it and looking at the photos How
did you remember all those scottish names?
Sorry about you getting the shits.
All the best O.M.
I’me of your husbands persuasion, cloudless blue skies. Fed up taking pictures in low light. About to post some fungi pictures that were taken in the dark.
Pete, thanks. Not sure why I have not photographed the Kites before. They are constantly flying around the field. One has taken to sitting on the power post in the field. I know they often roost and sit in the oak trees a quarter of a mile away.
Hi all my mother was a Blasdall her father was Mark Arron same as his father. The family is from Nottingham and were lace makers. Came out to Australia in 1862. Lived in Brisbane. Anyone else from this side?
Like your photos! I was there about a year after the quake, when the city centre was more-or-less abandoned. There as a temporary city centre built from shipping containers. Is that still there? Good to hear that reconstruction is well under way.
Is this group still active? I am in the United States. My Grandmother was a Hossack. Her Grandparents emigrated in about 1873. Robert Hossack and Jane Campbell Hossack. I would be interested in learning more about the history of the Hossack family.
All my photographs do go through Lightroom. The colour balance was not changed, the shadows were lightened considerably, while the highlights were darkened a bit.
I could still get into Windows after the backout. Several hours later it would try and apply the upgrade again. There was no conclusive evidence the drive had failed. CHKDSK did stall at 14% for many hours. It was at that stage I decided to buy the SSD. They have come done in price since the time I bought it.
My great grandmother married Ernest Arthur Blasdale. He was from Nottingham originally but settled in Ilkeston. He sadly died of a brain hemorrage in his 40’s. He’ll have been born around 1880 He was a mining engineer. My grandmother was a Blasdale but married Jack Hodgett who was father to my mum. We’ve photos and memorabilia anyone related might like to see.
Wonderful holiday Steve. Thanks so much for sharing, we’ve really enjoyed reading of your adventure. Big well done for getting to the top, fab achievement.

Steve, William Rainey from Walker! I am finally going through my MANY MANY MANY thousands of photos going back to the 1920’s (my family has always liked photograph), scanning the non-digital ones, and posting them. I have a lot from the Aylesbury office I can scan and give to you to do with as you like.
Here is a link to one I do not remember taking in May, 1989. Was it taken from/of your house?
I asked our village Facebook group, and they came back with Westlington Manor. It is on the main road between Thame and Aylesbury. Most probably you saw the cottage as you were travelling by in a bus.
The link below is to street view. I am pretty sure it is the same cottage, there has been a large growth of vegetation around it.
The Cambridge Folk Festival was running before I attended Cambridge University. It started in 1965. I never attended, until three years ago when a group of us alumni of Caius College attended. One of the alumni was checking off his bucket list, I had taken him to Glastonbury Festival. I persuaded Rosemary to come this time.
What an adventurous journey! Your meticulous planning amidst the uncertainties of the pandemic showcases determination. The details of your travel, from PCR tests to the scenic flight over Lake Naivasha, add a personal touch. Kudos on navigating through the challenges. The insights into Ethiopian Airlines’ service and the security considerations provide valuable information. Excited to follow your Kilimanjaro climb! Safe travels!
Hi Steve – These photos are so great! I have been looking for a photo of the ceiling of Basildon Park’s dining room for a YouTube video I am making about ceilings in historical movies. I wondered if I could have permission to use the photo in the video, with credit of course and a link in the description to your page. It would be the photo facing the window, with the medallions framing it. Thank you for your time and consideration!
The holiday seems an eternity ago and I have to visit the site every now and then to remind myself why I go to work 🙂 Great picures and interesting Blog Steve, keep up the good work old boy!!!

Hi Pete,
hope you get my mail.

So interesting to find out about Blasdales. Don’t know if we are related or not. My father, Albert Arthur Blasdale [one of 6 boys and a girl ] came to U.S with his uncle, Wilfred Wright , in early 1900’s

Glenys.
Just Another update … We also now have Logan John Blasdale ( Great Grandson to Barrie ( my Father ) Grandson to Stephen )
Blasdales

G.B.from OZ

Blasdales

Blasdale family

What a shame to travel al lthe way from oz only to die in UK.

more blasdales

Hi I am Dawn Blasdale I live in Leicester,England. My father sadly now deceased was John Ernest Blasdale born June 30th 1923. He was born in Coventry his father was also John Ernest born 1899.
Just got to say thanks to Steve for such a fabulous collection of photos and to Rosemary for your patience!….if anyone there enjoyed it only half as much as we did then they were still having a great time! Have emailed a link to your site to as many folks as I have email addresses for..
Loadsa love and see you soon, Tessa & Robin.
A dry risotto? How the hell does one make a dry risotto? That would be a pilaff, wouldn’t it?

Oh pulease! You’re far too old to survive any assault by two Georgian ladies. Dream on!!
That’s “cassoulet”. I’ve got four duck legs in the freezer and really must make one. ‘T is the season for such warming nosh, after all.
Cheers!

This did not really work, the manual procedure allowed the 2G to be selected. Within minutes the phone found the 3G signal and reverted.
That “not to be named” person is, I suspect, me, then? To be fair, I don’t mind change for the better but this seemed to fall into the “not as good as before” category, to me. I guess I’ll have to go that way, though.
I can feel a blog of my own coming on. 🙂
I couldn’t agree more – go nuclear! The world’s population is growing far too fast to be satisfied by intermittent, low-output technology. What we should really be doing is concentrating on insulating ourselves from being held to ransom by other countries. France has got it right.

Dry curry houses? What was that, a religious thing?

Hello everyone of you Blasdales, I am the dad of Lee who will be 40 on the 7th April and together with Lucy, they are expecting their first child in June. I’m sure all you lovely Blasdale people will want to join me in wishing them all the best. Then to those of the Blasdale clan that I am hearing about for the first time, I trust you are enjoying a happy and healthy life where
ever in the world you may be.
Steve, A very good photo. I can see you will have another Occupation when you retire!!
Ah ha, I had precisely the same problem. Infuriating, isn’t it?
Steve, baby, some of your photos labelled “Blue Tit” are, in fact, Great Tits (the “Blue Tit Landing”, for example).
I was waiting for Rosemary to annotate the text on the pictures, my course on Jalbum for her has gone with with the Fog
Here, here!
hi my names rebecca blasdale and in 2008 my mother (diane blasdale) posted a note on this blog, about are reletives in australia. i have resently become interested in my family past and hope that one day we will discover long lost reletives.
i never new there is so many blasdale’s out there. i am now 12 years old and still living in nottingham.
best wishes becky
p.s please reply thanks
Hi! Glenys
I’m catching up – so have you got it yet?
Hi there – any Blasdales in Canada ….. ?? We are in Toronto Ontario. It is not a common surname here at all.
Odd, I have a much older sister named Suzy Blasdale… I wonder if there is any relation.
Charles Wells beers are off the moment they are made – to be avoided like the plague. 😉
I’m probably being v. thick and missing something but please could you put me out of my misery by explaining the title of this one?
No you are not thick, Rosemary commented on it. It was the title of Greg Davies show. The show got its name from one event in his life. He and a mate were travelling back to their villa in Spain after food shopping. They appeared to have purchased a catapult and some cheese balls. Their way home was stopped by a dog standing in the road. It was a fierce dog that basically gave them a ‘V’ sign and a kind of get me if you want to try look. So they sat in the car and fired cheese balls at it with the catapult.
Now are you any the wiser!!!
Great great grandfather Donald Hossack immigrated to Canada in 1835 from Inverness.
Nice picture, Steve – bravo!
i have a aunt who married a blasdale her name was melinda coppess and she married
i live in nottingham my father was denis blasdale but nobody in the family can help with is father , is the any body can help
I believe Nottingham to be the home of the Blasdale’s. I used to have three great aunts living there.
Paul – are you still looking for details on your father’s family?
Yes if you email paulblasdale54@gmail.com
Hi paul blasdale, are you elsies son? Elsie lived on Grassby walk, clifton, nottingham. Elsi is my dads sister and im trying to contact her by phone but no answer. Hope all is well.

Is chefing a word, if not, it is now.

Excellent shot of a Kestrel – bravo!
I think your mystery bird on the golf course may be a Wheatear.
I’m also suspicious that your “Yellow Wagtail” may actually be a Grey Wagtail (its tail looks v. long and its legs are relatively short). Both, confusingly, have yellow on them.
Super Photos
Glad you are having a great time
Dad
Glad you both are really enjoying the holiday M.
I too wished I had seen the Condors, although I think our lunch was much better than yours! Lorraine
I had to put up with comments fom Rosemary for the rest of the day. She was not amused.
Great Hummingbird Hawk Moth photo.
Great photos, and great diary. I’ve enjoyed all of it. Thank you for sharing it with us all.
I’d say that sea lion had heard about you, cats and tumble driers. 😉
OK, so why is your excellent picture of that beautiful dragonfly (the first shot) not in your star pictures gallery, pray tell? It’s a lovely shot, especially if you clone out the wasp thingy. 😀
I have added it to my star photos.
That wasp thing, I chose that shot because of the wasp thing, to show the extreme danger I was working under.
We have thoroughly enjoyed the photographs, they are excellent as is the commentary. Perhaps you should put it all together and publish!
Very nice pictures of the wild life.
Where next?
Did you not find this cafe in Arles, then?
We did walk up and down what we thought was the road, but failed to find VG’s caff. At think at this time we were decidedly getting lost in the winding passages.
That’s a new one on me, I’d have looked blank, too. God bless America!?
Glenys

Great pix Steve. I particularly like the one of the in air seeing its left hand side. Magic.

The container mall had been dismantled recently, leaving one container housing a bank. A tourist brochure still mentioned the mall as existing.

Is this group still active? I am in the United States. My Grandmother was a Hossack. Her Grandparents emigrated in about 1873. Robert Hossack and Jane Campbell Hossack. I would be interested in learning more about the history of the Hossack family.
Are the gardens at Eythorpe open to the public?
No, the gardens are not generally open to the public, they are private gardens. Tours of the gardens are available for groups. I see Waddesdon house is doing some group tours at £40 a person including lunch and tea. https://waddesdon.org.uk/eythrope-garden-tours-for-groups/ and https://waddesdon.org.uk/whats-on/eythrope-walled-garden-tour/
Superb photograph of St. Davids Cathedral Rose window – is that camera colour balance/white level, or did you choose to adjust in Lightroom?
All my photographs do go through Lightroom. The colour balance was not changed, the shadows were lightened considerably, while the highlights were darkened a bit.
Interesting – just one question (so far…); you said:
… update, and there started a loop […] a failing drive. Diagnostics showed some possible issues
As the thing was looping and presumably you couldn’t get into Windows 10, so how to run diagnostics?
— maybe you had the foresight to intall a dual-boot system, maybe you had to boot into a standalone diagnostic?
— either way, I think we would all be interested in how you did it.

I could still get into Windows after the backout. Several hours later it would try and apply the upgrade again. There was no conclusive evidence the drive had failed. CHKDSK did stall at 14% for many hours. It was at that stage I decided to buy the SSD. They have come done in price since the time I bought it.

Ahhh… OK, I’m not familiar with the process of backing out, fortunately never been in that situation 🙂
Thanks for the clarification.

Great pics Steve & Rosemary, thank you. Where was the wine room?
The wine room, more a wine storage area in a large glass climate-controlled cabinet was in the corridor to the toilets at the The Lion Brasserie, East Bergholt
That is indeed a very fine photo of a bat
Thank you.

Hello, I am Alex Blasdale and live in Coventry UK.
Never heard of the Cambridge Folk festival. Looks like fun! Thanks for sharing.
Love the book Christmas tree. Looks like Canons Ashby is well worth a visit any time of year.
Yes, it was nice and quiet as well. No big hordes of people
Looks fabulous (apart from the music!!!)
Yes, not quiet my music. Would want something more rocky.
Fabulous photos from a phone
Thank you.
